Friday, June 17th, 2011

Why is Sage selling a Microsoft product?  These days the tech industry is all about coopetition; a basic principle described in Game Theory by John Nash where competitive companies cooperate. “What is best for the group is best for an individual in the group”.

Microsoft SQL has become the database of choice for Sage ERP Accpac, and many other Sage products, as it is fast and efficient.  What more details?  Talk to our techy, programmer, IT Ninja Matt@Unisoft.net and he will chat your ear off for days about why this combination provides superior environment. Ask him about Accpac with Pervasive or just about any other DB and you might as well run for the hills. So what is the deal anyways…

Sage is reintroducing Sage ERP Accpac with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Runtime Edition (available for 32-Bit and 64-Bit) with a new competitive pricing model. This comes bundled with Sage ERP Accpac and its related applications and the capability is guaranteed.

Any of our Sage Accpac clients that would like to migrate from one of the competitive databases listed below is now able to for the low, low price of $75/CAL!

Any new client can purchase the bundled Microsoft SQL Runtime Edition for Sage ERP Accpac for $175 per user CAL. For customers with 30 or more users, the “Per Processor” license is more cost effective. Per Processor licensing is now $5,000.

Backup Your Business Data

For personal use there are many solutions; I like www.dropbox.com.

Sage Accpac Data Backup Best Practices

Does your company backup its’ data on a daily basis?

Depending on the volume of data and the number of people working in the system you may want to backup on a daily basis. Some of our clients have even backup their  servers in real-time.

Is your data backup at offsite?

This is simple – don’t put all your eggs in one basket.  It is very important that a backup of your data be taken offsite.

Test your restores at least once a year, Test your Data’s Integirty as often as possible!

Always test your backups; often people setup their own backup and never actually test it. Make sure that restoring your data actually works!  Data integrity checks should also be done every time you backup, ideally on a weekley if not daily basis.  For more information on how to check your data’s integrity look here: Data Integrity Check in Sage Accpac ERP

Do it right the first Time, because you may not get a second chance…

Have a application specialist setup the backup for you. Even if you have a vanilla installation of your software there maybe integrations or customizations that you don’t know about. A trained IT speciallist will help to ensure all of your data is backup appropiratley.

Automated Offsite Daily, Weekley or Monthly Backups

Unisoft offers affordable automated offsite Daily, Weekly or Monthly backups with data integrity checks as well as other disaster recovery services. For more information please contact Scott@Unisoft.net or call 604-926-3398.

Email Disclaimers for your Business

Monday, August 27th, 2007

As the use of email is now the sole form of business communication for many businesses it is highly recommended that businesses use an email disclaimer.  This protect your business and help to esnure the privacy of emails. There are many sites that provide sample disclaimers that can be easily put to use. There are also applications to ensure every email has a disclaimer attached. I also think this adds a level of professionalism to your emails that can help build a trusting relationship with your customers.

Recover Deleted Items in Outlook

Friday, August 24th, 2007

This is a quick tip for Outlook users. If you have deleted items and then removed them from your deleted items folder in outlook there is a way to retrieve these items. All you have to do is locate the menu bar item named “Tools”, expand this and click “Recover Deleted Items…” and that is all. This only works for users using Excahgne 2003 and later versions with Outlook 2003 and later versions.  The number of days items are recovered from are set on your Exchange server.

What is ERP Software?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

This is a good question. For any business, small, medium or large, looking to utilize technology to their full advantage they will need to know what ERP is and how they can use it.  Essentially, ERP stands for Enterprise Resource Planning, another great IT acronym. However, this is not what we are after, we are after the concept that is making ERP software the next revolution in business technology.

ERP software is meant to be a solution for your business that can encompass and integrate all of your business processes and needs. It can include manufacturing, supply mangement, sales, financials, customer management  or just a few business activities. ERP systems are built around what your business needs.

Why is ERP software so important? Because it brings all your systems together and ensures every business process is integrated, bringng your business technology system closer and closer to mimicking your business. This makes all your company activities more efficient and enables you’re business to get more out of your investment.
